The Urology Center of the South is pleased to announce that Lisa
Joyce, R.N., Shari Starnes, R.N., and Melody Weston, R.N. have recently
earned Certified Urology Registered Nurse (CURN) designations and have
become board certified by passing a comprehensive examination assessing a
broad scope of knowledge in the field of urologic health.
The Certification Board for Urologic Nurses and Associates
(CBUNA) has granted this certification to approximately 400 individuals
nationally. Nurses Joyce, Starnes and Weston are the first and only
registered nurses in the Memphis area to earn the CURN designation.
Individuals, families and communities seeking urologic health
care expect and deserve a standard of excellence. Certification is a process
by which a non-governmental agency or association validates- based on
pre-determined standards of practice- that an individual registered nurse,
licensed practical nurse, licensed vocational nurse, technician, physicianís
assistant, clinical nurse specialist or nurse practitioner meets the
qualifications and knowledge for practice in a defined function or clinical
area specified by that profession for specialty practice.
Established in 1972, CBUNA is a corporation for the purpose of
encouraging the study of urology and promoting competence in the delivery of
urologic care by urologic health professionals.
The Urology Center of the South commends Lisa Joyce, R.N., Shari
Starnes, R.N., and Melody Weston, R.N. for their dedication and for
elevating the standards of urologic nursing practice.
